Sex Games for Couples: 15 Ideas to Try Tonight
A sex game is a way to get past the awkward "so... what do you want to do?" moment. The rules give you somewhere to start, so you don't have to come up with everything in the moment. Most of these need nothing more than a phone, a deck of cards or a timer. All of them are for consenting adults.
We sorted them from mild to hot, the way a good night builds. Start at the top, skip what isn't you, and stop whenever one of you wants to.
Quick picks:
- No prep: Kiss countdown (#4)
- With cards: Strip cards (#5)
- Playful: Higher or lower with forfeits (#6)
- Role-play: Strangers at the bar (#11)
- Let an app choose: a dare game on one phone (#15)
The one rule: only play what you both said yes to
The best sex game is the one you both actually want to play. So before any of the games below, do the thing that makes them work: find out what you both like, without putting either of you on the spot.
The simplest way is a private yes/no list. Each of you writes down, separately, what you're up for tonight and what's off the table. Then read out only the ideas you both marked yes, and keep every game after that inside the overlap. One honest catch: on paper, you'll see each other's answers when you compare. If you'd rather keep your "no"s private, a phone game can hide them for you (see #15).
Mild: warm-up games
1. The yes/no list. The rule above works as a game on its own. Write ten ideas together, from sweet to spicy. Each of you marks yes or no on your own copy, without looking. Then go through the list and circle the double yeses. It's a surprisingly flirty half hour, and you finish with a to-do list.
2. Spicy would you rather. Take turns asking "would you rather" questions that get a little warmer each round. Answers have to be honest, and the other person can ask one follow-up. Keep it playful: the point is learning something new, not winning.
3. Blindfold taste test. One of you is blindfolded. The other offers small bites: chocolate, a strawberry, something cold, something unexpected. Three wrong guesses in a row and the guesser owes a kiss wherever the other one chooses.
4. Kiss countdown. Set a timer for three minutes. Kiss anywhere except the lips until it rings. Then switch. It sounds tame. It isn't.
Spicy: playful games
5. Strip cards. Any deck works. Each of you draws a card and the lower card loses a piece of clothing. Want it slower? Play to five wins per item. Want it faster? Aces take two items.
6. Higher or lower with forfeits. Flip a card and call whether the next one is higher or lower. A wrong call means a forfeit the other person picks from your shared yes list. It's quick, it's luck-based, and nobody feels "bad at it".
7. Homemade sex dice. Take two ordinary dice. Write six actions (kiss, touch, massage, lick, whisper, tease) for the first die and six places (neck, ear, back, lips, inner arm, your choice) for the second. Roll both and do what they say for 30 seconds. Swap out anything that isn't on both of your lists.
8. Never have I ever, couples edition. Take turns saying something you've never done, from the everyday to the daring. If your partner has done it, they tell the story. If neither of you has done it, it goes on the "maybe someday" list.
9. Massage roulette. Set a timer for two minutes. The person receiving the massage picks where. The person giving picks how: slow, firm, featherlight, with oil, with fingertips only. When the timer rings, switch roles.
Hot: when you're both warmed up
10. The menu. One of you writes a "menu" of three options for tonight: a starter, a main and a dessert. The other orders one course. Keep it a surprise until it arrives.
11. Strangers at the bar. Role-play meeting for the first time: at a bar, at a hotel, wherever you like. Pick names that aren't yours, agree on one detail each (who you are, why you're here) and improvise the rest. A safe word takes you straight back to being yourselves.
12. Ice and heat. One person lies back with eyes closed. The other alternates an ice cube with warm breath, one spot at a time. The one lying down may only say "more" or "next".
13. Simon says, in bed. One of you gives the instructions for ten minutes, and the other follows them, within your yes list. Then you swap. Taking turns at leading is half the fun.
14. One rule night. Play any game, even a board game you already own. Whoever wins a round sets one new rule for the rest of the night ("no hands", "only whispers", "you have to ask first"). Rules pile up and nobody can break them.
Hot to Extreme: let a game run the night
15. A dare game on one phone. If you'd rather not plan anything, a couples dare app can do the whole arc for you. Our own game, TwoNite, is built around the rule at the top of this page. You each pick your limits in private on the same phone, and the game only plays what you both said yes to. It then builds from Mild through Spicy and Hot to Extreme, with 2,000+ dares and minigames like Card War and Higher or Lower where the loser takes the dare. No account: no name, no email, no phone number, and your picks are never linked to you. The first scenario is free, and you can play it in your browser without installing anything. It's on the App Store and Google Play.
Want to compare apps first? We lined up the one-phone options (TwoNite, Smush, SpicyX, Spicer and Desire) in best sex games for couples on one phone.
How to pick a sex game you'll both enjoy
- Start one level lower than you think. It's easier to turn the heat up than to recover from a game that went too far too fast.
- Agree on a skip word. One word that skips any dare, no questions asked. You'll use it less than you expect, and knowing it's there makes both of you braver.
- Keep the stakes silly. Forfeits work best when they're fun to lose.
- Stop while it's still good. A game is a warm-up, not a contract. If you'd rather drop the cards halfway through, the game did its job.
FAQ
Q: What are good sex games for couples to start with?
A: Start with low-pressure games that build on each other: a private yes/no list, spicy would you rather, or a kiss countdown. Move to strip cards or homemade sex dice once you're both relaxed.
Q: How do you suggest a sex game if you're shy?
A: Suggest the yes/no list first. You each mark your answers on your own before you talk, so nobody has to open with a request, and you start from the ideas you both marked yes.
Q: Do you need to buy anything to play sex games?
A: No. Every game on this list works with things you already have: a deck of cards, two ordinary dice, a timer, a scarf as a blindfold, or one phone.
Q: Are there sex game apps for couples?
A: Yes. Some work on one phone that you pass back and forth, like TwoNite and Smush. Others need both partners to install the app and link, like Spicer. See our comparison of one-phone sex games and the Couples Game Index.
