The Single Veto

Part 58 · currency

The rule: Each of you gets one veto tonight, used on any dare, no reason needed. Save it or spend it early.

The Single Veto is one of the bed games with actual rules from our TikTok series (part 58). It needs two adults, one bed and nothing else. Below: how to set it up, how a round goes, how to play it at four levels from mild to extreme, the mistakes that break it, and three variations for the second night.

Setup

A source of dares — cards, a list, or the TwoNite game on one phone. Two tokens of any kind: a coin each, a hair tie, a sock. The token is the veto. When it's spent, it's gone.

How to play

  1. Each of you puts your veto token on the nightstand.
  2. Draw dares in turn. The player it lands on either plays it or vetoes it.
  3. To veto, hand your token to the other player. No reason, no explanation. The dare is skipped.
  4. A vetoed dare is replaced by the next one. The next one cannot be vetoed by the same player.
  5. When both tokens are spent, the rest of the night is played without vetoes. Pace yourself.

Four levels

  • Mild: Dares are light and the veto is mostly a joke. Spend it on something silly early and feel the difference later.
  • Spicy: Dares include touch. The veto starts to matter; most people hold it until round five.
  • Hot: Dares are the ones that make you check the other one's face first. The veto is the only exit.
  • Extreme: One veto between the two of you, not one each. Whoever grabs it first owns it — and the other one plays everything.

What breaks it

  • Explaining the veto. The whole point is that you don't have to.
  • Vetoing to be polite. Spend it on yourself, not on protecting them.
  • Forgetting the no-double-veto rule. The dare after a veto is always played.

Variations

  • The veto trade: vetoes can be bought from each other, price negotiable, paid in dares.
  • The returned veto: a dare completed without hesitation earns your token back.
  • The timer veto: the veto expires at midnight, used or not.

The matched list

Every game on this page assumes one thing: you both already said yes to it. If you want the version where that happens on the screen first — each of you picks privately, the game only plays what you both chose — that's the TwoNite dare game. It runs in the browser on one phone, no account. The Single Veto works as a house rule on top of it.

FAQ

What if we both want to veto the same dare?

Only the player it landed on can veto it. The other one watches, or doesn't.

Does the veto work in the TwoNite app?

The app already only plays what both of you chose first, so there's less to veto. The Single Veto is the house rule for the ones you chose and then regretted.

Is it better to save it or spend it?

Spend it early once, save it once, and you'll know which kind of player you are.
