The Lost Turn

Part 55 · lose

The rule: Laugh during a dare and you lose it — it goes straight to the other one. The dare doesn't change. The player does.

The Lost Turn is one of the bed games with actual rules from our TikTok series (part 55). It needs two adults, one bed and nothing else. Below: how to set it up, how a round goes, how to play it at four levels from mild to extreme, the mistakes that break it, and three variations for the second night.

Setup

You need a source of dares — a deck, a list you wrote earlier, or the TwoNite dare game on one phone. Agree on the laugh rule before the first card: a laugh is any sound that isn't part of the dare.

How to play

  1. Draw a dare. The player it lands on starts performing it.
  2. If the player laughs — a snort counts, a giggle counts — the dare stops immediately.
  3. The dare transfers to the other player, exactly as written. Same dare, same duration, from the start.
  4. If the second player laughs too, it bounces back. There is no limit.
  5. A dare completed without a laugh is a point. First to five points picks the last dare of the night.

Four levels

  • Mild: Dares are small and silly on purpose — hold eye contact for a minute, say three nice things in a serious voice — so the laughing starts early.
  • Spicy: Dares involve touch. Laughing is harder to avoid and more expensive to lose.
  • Hot: Dares are the ones you'd normally skip. Losing one to a laugh means watching the other one do it instead.
  • Extreme: One dare, one round, no points: whoever laughs loses the entire dare to the other one and has to watch it through to the end, silently.

What breaks it

  • Arguing about whether it was a laugh. If you're arguing, it was.
  • Choosing dares nobody could laugh at. The game needs the risk.
  • Forgetting the dare doesn't change. The player changes; the card stays.

Variations

  • The one lamp: play it with a single lamp on. Whoever laughs also has to turn it off and finish in the dark.
  • The fine: a lost turn costs a kiss on a place the winner names.
  • The silent night: no laughing at all, for the whole game. First laugh ends the evening — and decides who's in charge of the next one.

The matched list

Every game on this page assumes one thing: you both already said yes to it. If you want the version where that happens on the screen first — each of you picks privately, the game only plays what you both chose — that's the TwoNite dare game. It runs in the browser on one phone, no account. The Lost Turn works as a house rule on top of it.

FAQ

What counts as a laugh in The Lost Turn?

Any sound that isn't the dare. Breath that shakes counts. A straight face that cracks counts.

Where do the dares come from?

Anywhere. The TwoNite dare game works well because it only plays what both of you chose first, so the dares are already ones you'd both do.

What if we both keep laughing forever?

Then you've found a dare that's too funny for tonight. Skip it, keep the point open, draw again.
