The Mirror Rule

Part 54 · constraint

The rule: For five minutes, whatever you do, the other one has to copy it exactly. No improvising. Mirrors don't.

The Mirror Rule is one of the bed games with actual rules from our TikTok series (part 54). It needs two adults, one bed and nothing else. Below: how to set it up, how a round goes, how to play it at four levels from mild to extreme, the mistakes that break it, and three variations for the second night.

Setup

Five-minute timer, both facing each other. Pick who's the person and who's the mirror. Agree the one hard rule: the mirror copies everything, at the same speed, and never adds.

How to play

  1. Start the timer. The person moves; the mirror copies, same hand, same side, same speed.
  2. The person can do anything: touch their own face, touch the mirror's face, lean in, pull back.
  3. The mirror may not improvise, hesitate or improve on it. Copy only.
  4. When the timer ends, swap. The mirror becomes the person.
  5. After both rounds, each of you names one thing you did that you were surprised to feel done back.

Four levels

  • Mild: Hands and faces only. A slow hand on a cheek, copied; a kiss on the forehead, copied.
  • Spicy: Full upper body. The person decides how close it gets; the mirror can't decide anything.
  • Hot: Anything the person does to the mirror, the mirror does back — at once, exactly, no pause to think.
  • Extreme: The mirror is blindfolded and copies by feel. Whatever the person does, the mirror has to find and return without seeing.

What breaks it

  • The mirror getting ahead. If you know what's coming, wait anyway.
  • The person testing the mirror with something they wouldn't want back. You'll get it back.
  • Talking. Mirrors don't.

Variations

  • The delayed mirror: everything is copied three seconds late.
  • The one-hand mirror: both of you keep one hand behind your back the whole round.
  • The mirror and the lamp: play it with one lamp on, standing in front of an actual mirror, so both of you can see the copy.

The matched list

Every game on this page assumes one thing: you both already said yes to it. If you want the version where that happens on the screen first — each of you picks privately, the game only plays what you both chose — that's the TwoNite dare game. It runs in the browser on one phone, no account. The Mirror Rule works as a house rule on top of it.

FAQ

Who should be the mirror first?

The one who usually leads. Being copied teaches them more than leading does.

Is five minutes enough?

Five is exactly right for the first round. Second rounds have a way of running long.

What if the mirror can't keep up?

Then the person slows down. That's the lesson of the game, and it's for the person, not the mirror.
