Sex Dice: How to Play (Rules, Ideas and a DIY Set)
Sex dice are a pair of dice for couples: one tells you what to do, the other tells you where. You roll, you read, you do it. The dice make the next choice, so you don't have to decide every move in the moment. That's the whole appeal.
You don't need to buy a set. Two ordinary dice and a scrap of paper work just as well, and you can tune them to exactly what you both like.
How sex dice work
A classic set has two dice:
- The action die: kiss, lick, touch, massage, blow, tease.
- The place die: lips, neck, ear, back, chest, "your choice".
Roll both and combine them: "massage + back", "kiss + neck". Some sets add a third die for time (10 seconds to a minute) or position.
The rules (simple version)
- Agree on the list first. Before the first roll, go through both dice and swap out anything that isn't a yes for both of you. This takes two minutes and makes the whole game relaxed.
- Take turns rolling. The roller is the one who does the action, to the other person.
- Set a timer. 30 seconds per roll is a good start. Add time as the night goes on.
- One free skip each round. If a combination doesn't feel right, re-roll. No explanation needed.
- Stop whenever you want. The dice are a warm-up, not a rulebook.
Make your own sex dice in five minutes
Take two regular dice and write this on a piece of paper:

Keep the paper where you both can see it. Change any line, any time, as long as you both agree.
Three heat levels to try
Mild (first roll of the night). Actions: kiss, hug, whisper something nice, hold hands, stroke hair, slow dance. Places: cheek, forehead, hand, shoulder, neck, "your choice". Timer: 20 seconds.
Spicy (once you're both laughing). Actions: kiss, nibble, massage, blow softly, trace with a finger, undress one item. Places: neck, ear, lower back, collarbone, inner arm, "your choice". Timer: 45 seconds.
Hot (when you're both warmed up). Actions and places from your own shared yes list. This is where the DIY set wins: nobody else knows what's on your list, so nobody else can write it for you. Timer: a minute, or until one of you says "next".
Extra dice for more variety
- A time die: 1 = 10 seconds, 2 = 20, 3 = 30, 4 = 45, 5 = 60, 6 = "until I say stop".
- A room die: sofa, bed, kitchen, shower, floor, "your choice". Roll it once per round, not every turn.
- A "who" die: odd numbers mean the roller acts, even numbers mean the partner does. It keeps both of you on your toes.
Sex dice apps
