Date night games for couples
A date night at home needs one thing a restaurant gives you for free: a reason to put the phone down. These seven games are that reason. They come from our TikTok series of games with actual rules, picked for the hours before bed — dinner, music, lights, a walk across the room. Each one takes two adults, no props and about ten minutes. Play one, or line up three for the whole evening.
The games
Tap a card for the rule and the payoff — the line that makes it a game instead of a suggestion.
- musicThe Two SongsThe rule: Each of you picks one song the other must sit through. No phone, no talking. Skipping one means sitting through two.Pick in private, then play them back to back, lights low. The rule is the silence: you listen to each other's song the way they heard it. Talk only when both have played.
- dinnerThe Last PlateThe rule: Dinner ends when one plate is empty. The one still eating owns the next hour. Eat slowly. That is the whole strategy.Serve the same amount. Nobody announces the rule's end — the first empty plate does. The winner decides what the next hour is: a walk, a film, the next game on this list.
- lightsThe DimmerThe rule: Turn off one light every ten minutes until a single lamp is left. Asking for light back costs a dare.Count the lights before you start and set a timer. Whoever's turn it is picks which light goes. By the last lamp the evening has changed on its own.
- challengeThe Poker FaceThe rule: Hold eye contact while they whisper something silly. First smile loses. The winner picks the next song.Thirty seconds a round, take turns whispering. Silly beats sexy here — the point is the laugh you are trying not to have. Best of five.
- trustThe Trust WalkThe rule: Lead them, eyes closed, from the door to the bed by voice alone. No touching till they get there.Clear the floor first. The leader may only speak; the walker may only listen. Swap roles on the way back. Slower is better.
- narrativeThe UnsaidThe rule: Each of you writes one thing you've thought about and never said. Swap. Read it. No comments till morning. One line each, folded, exchanged at the same time. The morning rule is the game: you sleep on it before you answer.
- timerThe JukeboxThe rule: Each of you queues three songs. The dare changes when the song does. Skipping a song skips nothing. The music game that carries the night into the bedroom. Full rules, four levels and variations on its own page.Full rules →
How to build a date night from these
Three games make an evening. A good order is dinner → music → lights: The Last Plate while you eat, The Two Songs with the dishes done, then The Dimmer until a single lamp is left. The Trust Walk and The Jukebox are the bridge to the bedroom — our Bed Games page has fifteen games for after that.
If you want a dinner that is itself the game, our date night ideas at home has twenty, and date night after the kids are asleep is the version that fits in ninety minutes.
Four levels, one rule
These games are written at the mild end on purpose — they work on a first date and on an anniversary. Where a game names a dare (The Dimmer, The Jukebox), agree on the level before you start: Mild is a kiss, Spicy is a kiss with intent, Hot assumes the evening is going somewhere, Extreme is for people who have been together a while. Our Truth or Dare and Couples Dice pages deal those dares for you, by level.

Do we need anything for these date night games?
No. A phone for the timer and the music, a lamp or two, dinner. Everything else is the two of you.
Are they for new couples or long-term couples?
Both. The Two Songs and The Poker Face work on a third date; The Unsaid works best after a few years. Pick by how much you already know.
How long does a date night with these take?
About ten minutes a game. Three games plus dinner is a two-hour evening without a screen.
Where do the dares come from?
Write them yourselves, or use the free Truth or Dare and Couples Dice pages here — or the TwoNite dare game, where you each pick in private and only the dares you both chose come up.
