The Lullaby

Part 29 · timer

The rule: One of you talks the other one towards sleep for five minutes and may say absolutely anything. Nobody actually falls asleep.

The Lullaby is one of the bed games with actual rules from our TikTok series (part 29). It needs two adults, one bed and nothing else. Below: how to set it up, how a round goes, how to play it at four levels from mild to extreme, the mistakes that break it, and three variations for the second night.

Setup

Lights off or nearly off. The listener lies down and closes their eyes. The talker sets a five-minute timer face-down so nobody can see it. Phones otherwise away.

How to play

  1. The listener closes their eyes and agrees not to open them for five minutes.
  2. The talker starts the timer and begins talking. Low voice, slow pace. The job is to sound like a lullaby, whatever the words are.
  3. The talker may say absolutely anything. A memory, a plan, a confession, a description of what they're going to do when the timer ends.
  4. The listener may not answer, laugh or move. Every reaction is a point for the talker.
  5. When the timer goes off, roles swap — or don't. The listener decides.

Four levels

  • Mild: Describe your favourite day together, slowly, in order. End with where you'd like to wake up tomorrow.
  • Spicy: Describe what you noticed about them today — their hands, their voice, the moment you wanted to leave the room with them.
  • Hot: Describe, step by step, what you'd do if the listener opened their eyes right now. Don't touch them until the timer ends.
  • Extreme: Describe it and do exactly what you're describing, one sentence at a time, keeping the lullaby voice the whole way. The listener's eyes stay closed.

What breaks it

  • Talking fast. The game is called The Lullaby for a reason — if it sounds like a story, slow down.
  • Checking the timer. Face-down means face-down.
  • The listener "helping" with questions. Silence is their only job.

Variations

  • The relay: two minutes each, alternating, until someone actually falls asleep. Nobody has.
  • The recorded lullaby: the talker records it as a voice note during the day and the listener plays it in bed. Same rules.
  • The reverse lullaby: the talker's job is to keep the listener awake for five minutes using only their voice.

The matched list

Every game on this page assumes one thing: you both already said yes to it. If you want the version where that happens on the screen first — each of you picks privately, the game only plays what you both chose — that's the TwoNite dare game. It runs in the browser on one phone, no account. The Lullaby works as a house rule on top of it.

FAQ

How long is The Lullaby?

Five minutes per round. Most couples play one round; the ones who play two don't get much sleep.

What if I run out of things to say?

Describe the room. Then describe the listener. You won't run out after that.

Is this a sleep game or a sex game?

It starts as one and usually becomes the other. The rule that nobody actually falls asleep is a joke that keeps coming true.
