The Dare Ladder
Part 51 · bidding
The rule: You name a dare, then a bigger one, and so on until someone says stop. The one who stops picks the first rung.
The Dare Ladder is one of the bed games with actual rules from our TikTok series (part 51). It needs two adults, one bed and nothing else. Below: how to set it up, how a round goes, how to play it at four levels from mild to extreme, the mistakes that break it, and three variations for the second night.
Setup
No cards, no props, no timer. Both of you in bed, facing each other. The only rule to agree on: a dare named on the ladder is a dare you'd actually do tonight. Bluffing is allowed; lying isn't.
How to play
- Player one names a dare. Small. That's rung one.
- Player two names a bigger one. Rung two. Bigger means more, longer, closer — whatever you both understand it to mean.
- Keep climbing. Each rung has to beat the last.
- The first person to say "stop" ends the ladder. The last rung named before stop is the dare that gets played.
- The one who said stop picks who goes first — the first rung is theirs to assign.
Four levels
- Mild: Ladders of kisses and touches. Rung one is a kiss on the hand; see how high it gets.
- Spicy: Ladders of what you'd say. Each rung is a sentence you'd whisper, bigger than the last.
- Hot: Ladders of what you'd do in the next ten minutes. The ladder itself is half the night.
- Extreme: Ladders with no stop until a rung is refused. The refused rung is replaced by the one before it — and that one is played, in full, by the refuser.
What breaks it
- Climbing too fast. A ladder with three rungs is a bad ladder.
- Naming dares you wouldn't do. The last rung gets played; name it like you mean it.
- Saying stop as a joke. Stop is stop.
Variations
- The two ladders: each of you builds your own, alternating, and the shorter ladder's builder plays the taller one's top rung.
- The silent ladder: rungs are written on slips, passed back and forth. Stop is a blank slip.
- The ladder and the veto: combine it with The Single Veto. One veto, usable only on the final rung.
The matched list
Every game on this page assumes one thing: you both already said yes to it. If you want the version where that happens on the screen first — each of you picks privately, the game only plays what you both chose — that's the TwoNite dare game. It runs in the browser on one phone, no account. The Dare Ladder works as a house rule on top of it.

FAQ
What counts as a bigger dare?
Whatever you both agree is bigger. Arguing about it is a stop.
What if nobody wants to stop?
Then the ladder reaches the ceiling and the last rung is one you both named your way to. That's the game working.
Can the ladder go down?
No. A smaller rung is a stop, and the one who named it picks the first rung — of the dare they just lost.
